Clabon Mews / SW1

Built on part of what was once known as Quail Field — open land used for market gardening until 1837. By the mid-C19 it had become a successful sporting ground and home of the MCC, until the club left for Lord's in 1876. The mews buildings arose to serve the grand Queen Anne Revival residences of Lennox Gardens which were developed 1882-6. Now these mews dwellings fetch many millions of pounds in their own right. Modernist anomaly in a street mainly comprising early-C19 residential properties, on the edge of the Belgravia Conservation Area. This building is directly above underground lines close to Sloane Square station, so may have its origin in one of the station reconstructions. This attractive building on a 1930s industrial park was occupied by Endecotts in 1959. In 1965 a second manufacturing floor and additional offices were built above the original structure [source: www.endecotts.com/about-us/history/]. Horizontality is accentuated by contrasting brick string courses and stone dressings. London Borough of Merton.

Gunthorpe St / E1

West facade of the Victorian Whitechapel Board of Works refuse destructor building built (1900) in red brick with segmental arches, saw-tooth roof and round windows in the pediments. This facade was retained when the interior was rebuilt (1997) into light-industrial units. Previously known as Gunthorpe Street Workshops, now called Sherrington Mews. London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

St Peter's / Eaton Sq

Original architect Henry Hakewill, 1827, in Neo-Classical style with west front modelled on the west portico of the Erechtheion. Grade II* listed. Subsequent architects: Arthur William Hakewill, 1837; Sir Arthur Blomfield, 1914; Braithwaite Partnership, 1991. This Anglo-Catholic church has suffered 2 fires, the last in 1987. Memorial / Robert Dow

Sculptor: Christopher Kingsfield, c.1623, repaired 1675. Robert Dow was a Master of the Merchant Taylor's guild and, judging from the inscription, was a generous benefactor to charities. He died in 1612 "being full of daies at the age of 90 yeares". Piece situated in the lobby of St Botolph without Aldgate, City of London.

The central section with the Deco tower was originally an airline terminal designed by Albert Lakeman, 1939, Grade II listed. There have since been extensions and refurbishments, mainly by architects tp bennett LLP and the building has been occupied by the NAO since 1986. City of Westminster, London.

Cast aluminium street sign for Cricket Green in Mitcham. Manufacturer's mark at lower right corner says Royal Label Factory. Mitcham's nearby cricket ground dates back to 1695 and is said to be the oldest one still in use. London Borough of Merton.
