Enchantress / Weymouth

Built in Canada in 1943 for the Royal Navy. Has a strengthened hull for working with cables and chains. Likely used to deploy barrage balloons as well as general transportation around Weymouth and Portland. Now serving as a pleasure boat along with another WW2 veteran My Girl [source: Coastline Cruises leaflet]. Weymouth Harbour, Dorset. 

9 Custom House Quay / Weymouth

Grade II listed warehouse built C19. Until earlier this year occupied by Sharky's children's indoor activity centre, previously John Deheer's Warehouse and before that Hanney's Fish Warehouse. Weymouth, Dorset.

My Girl / Weymouth

Built 1931 by the Mitchell Brothers, Mevagissey. Requisitioned 1939 to carry personnel and supplies to the Portland forts. After WW2 this 13m launch reverted to a pleasure boat, ferrying passengers between Weymouth and Portland [source: Coastline Cruises leaflet; National Register of Historic Ships]. Lano's Tunnel / Tout Quarry

By Jonathan Lano, c.1862 (according to keystone engraving), using Portland stone. Originally for the quarry tramway, Grade II listed in 1993. Listing concludes: this is a well-built structure with some design pretension in an abandoned quarry area. Isle of Portland, Dorset.

Architects: Chamberlin, Powell, and Bon; engineers: Ove Arup & Partners, 1974. Brutalist residential terrace block on tall columns with pick-hammered concrete surfaces. Grade II listed. The spectacular Barbican Estate was designed by the practice that cut its teeth on the nearby Golden Lane Estate. City of London.

Architects: Kajima Design, 2000, in a postmodern style. 272m high (inc. antenna) offices and data centre. The distinctive stepped spire had a clock face added in 2002. Yoyogi, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan.
