P Berg / Seil Flag og Compasmager

Polychrome transom relief above door of an erstwhile "sail, flag and compass-maker".  On the left appears Hermes, representing here the god of commerce with a cornucopia, symbol of abundance. Possibly the goddess to the right is Demeter, regarded as the Earth and its riches.  Date 1737 inscribed on keystone. 65 Nyhavn, Copenhagen, Denmark.
