Peace Statue / BN3

Sculptor: Newbury Abbot Trent (1885-1953), unveiled 1912. Bronze statue of Nike holding an olive branch on top of an elaborately decorated pedestal. Stands on the boundary between Brighton and Hove. Mid-century modern, eight-storey business centre built for Brighton Borough Council in 1963. Around 100 creative businesses have been required to vacate due to fire safety risks. Architect: Edmund Scott of Brighton, 1874. Usually described as neo-Gothic or Italian Gothic style with neo-Classical, Byzantine and Arts & Crafts influences. Pevsner said it's “one of the most tremendous 19th-century churches in the world” and it's Grade 1 listed, but it has also come in for some criticism over the years.
