Royal Victoria Patriotic School / (Former)
Architect: Rhode Hawkins, 1859, in "Scottish baronial style with Jacobean and French elements" according to the Grade II* listing. Using yellow brick and Yorkshire stone dressings, with slate roofs and turrets. Originally as a school for widows and orphans of the Crimean war. 'London Pride' / Frank Dobson
Sculptor: Frank Dobson (1886-1963, London). Bronze female figures of 1951, cast c.1987, Grade II listed. The bowl was intended for Saxifraga × urbium. South Bank, London Borough of Lambeth.

An evergreen perennial to 30cm in height, forming wide mats of rosettes of spoon-shaped, long-stalked leaves with scalloped margins. Small pink-flushed white flowers are borne in lax panicles from early summer

Saxifraga × urbium rapidly colonised the bombed sites left by the London Blitz of the early 1940s. As such it is symbolic of the resilience of London and ordinary Londoners

Royal Festival Hall designed by architects of the LCC, 1951 and 1964. In the modern style of the Festival of Britain, with Scandinavian influenced interior. This east (Belvedere Road) elevation is on ten columns with a window strip at high level. The cladding is Portland stone. The first post-WW2 building to be Grade I listed. London Borough of Lambeth.
