Cranbrook Estate

[from the archives of 2011]
Architects: Skinner, Bailey and Lubetkin, 1964. The Cranbrook Estate was a relatively late design by ex-Tecton personnel. Lower budgets and a move away from post-WW2 progressive ideals took their toll, with an absence of balconies, lower-quality cladding, larger occupation densities (higher builds received greater Government subsidy in the '60s), plus the use of pre-cast panels and floors. However the development still retained a good proportion of green space between the high and low-rise dwellings. Bethnal Green, London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
