The Freemasons Arms / Long Acre

Public house on Long Acre, close to the Freemasons' Hall. According to CAMRA this was first licensed in 1704 and known as the Bull's Head until 1778. The present building is from the Victorian era. City of Westminster, London.

Shoreham Power Station / Portslade

420MW gas-fired power station, opened summer 2000, on the site of the old Brighton 'B' coal-fired power station. The 106m chimney is on the same spot as one of the previous brick-built stacks. It is said that the design is intended to resemble a ship. Shoreham Harbour, Portslade, Sussex, England.

Emily Young / 'Archangel Michael - The Protector'

Onyx sculpture of 2004 by Emily Young FRBS (b.1951), here in memory of the victims of the 7th July 2005 bombings and all victims of violence. St Pancras New Church, London Borough of Camden. 

23 Calthorpe Street / WC1X

Part of a terrace of eleven houses (no. 23 at corner), now converted into flats, built c.1842-9. Three storeys and basements, built of stock brick with channelled stucco at ground level. The street was named after Lord Calthorpe, the owner of the original estate. The terrace is Grade II listed. London Borough of Camden.

Flaxman Terrace / The Lodge

St Pancras Church / NW1

Architects: William & Henry Inwood, 1822, in Greek Revival style using Portland stone. The west portico is based on the Erechtheion at the Acropolis, Athens. This Parish Church is Grade I listed. London Borough of Camden.

Meshed cog-wheels in granite and resin, commissioned by Art Contact, 2013, for outside the urbanest student halls. Height 3.8m, weight 6 tonnes. A clever, attractive piece relevant to the location and its history. King's Cross, London Borough of Camden.

Made by young people living in the King's Cross area with the artist Johanna van Benthem, commissioned for the King's Cross Action Arts Programme, 1998. Centre of Regent Square gardens. London Borough of Camden.

More correctly, ghost signs on the side of 55 Sidmouth Street, but facing into Regent Square. In the Victorian era the address was sometime occupied by a branch of Bates & Co. chemists. London Borough of Camden.

6 Whidborne Street / WC1H

Detached, single bay, three-storey Victorian building made of stock brick with a flat roof. Once a butcher's shop belonging to a Mr William Johnson,  it also has served as accommodation for the headmistress of nearby Argyle Primary School. In the 1990s it was divided into 2 flats but has now reverted to a single dwelling. Plans for a mansard roof extension, including 2-storey extension at rear, have recently been approved. London Borough of Camden.

Health Centre / E20

Penoyre & Prasad architects, 2011. I thought it was a church on first sight, but this colonnaded building was originally used as the Medical and Doping Centre for the 2012 Olympics. And as intended, it is now the community health and well-being centre for the East Village district. The building received an RIBA Regional Award and several other architectural awards. East Village / London E20 (x3)

What was the Athletes' Village of the 2012 Olympic Games now becoming a residential neighbourhood. Image shows Mara House, Coville Mansions and Maya Apartments facing Victory Parade. Also part of the Portlands linear park can be seen. London Borough of Newham.

The rainfall on the East Village area starts its treatment here, settling out coarser contaminants, with the plants taking up nutrients. From here it goes into another large polishing pond from where it is finally pumped back to East Village to be recycled for irrigation and WCs.

Pier Bandstand / Weymouth (x2)
