Soane Mausoleum / II

Architect: Sir John Soane, 1816, originally for his wife Eliza, now the tomb of John Soane himself, his wife and son John. Here viewed from the north. Portland stone, including a central dome said to have later influenced the design of the K2 telephone box. One of only two Grade I listed monuments in London. 220 Wandsworth Rd / SW8

Built 1926 extending the Springfield Hall church (right) of 1902. In a similar Tudor-Gothic revival style as the church, using red brick with stone dressings and central pediment. The site was redeveloped - I think in the early 2000s - although the façade retained. There is still a church and nursery, with residential to rear. London Borough of Wandsworth.

Former South Bank Polytechnic site built in the 1970s, converted c.2010 to mixed use including 244 residential flats. I believe the cantilevered lecture theatre was re-purposed as a 181 seat fringe theatre, but now sadly closed. London Borough of Wandsworth.
